Just watched (again) "Murder at the Gallop" and two other MGM Agatha Christie films featuring Charles Dingwell. His performances were so spot on; he made it look easy, which of course is the hallmark of a fine actor. This time around, watching his work, I was moved to look up his career online and landed here, at his official website, and was saddened to learn of his death in 2009. Glad his family keeps this site going, so fans can keep expressing appreciation. Most of us have only photos and memories of our departed loved ones; how amazing it must be to revisit facets of a man's life, captured forever in movies and television. Quite a legacy! Appreciation and good wishes to all his family and friends.

It's taken me this long to write something. I met Bud over the phone, in 1997, and for almost a year we had this relationship when I was writing a feature script about three old Bomber Command crew who are like brothers, but who share a dark secret. The others in the plan were his old mates, Bill Kerr and Vincent Ball. Bud gave me such great advice, and it was a huge delight to finally meet him at his home in Doncaster. Later I had them at my home in Sydney, reading the script and shooting a test scene. I put them up together in Bud's favourite Kings Cross hotel, and they got happily tipsy every night - laughing, Bill holding the floor with stories and jokes (and I have photos as proof!) Sadly, the film never got made, the the friendship with Bud grew and I would always take him to his favourite Italian restaurant whenever I was in Melbourne. Jack Thompson is right - you felt a foot taller, and had your spirit enlarged whenever you left Bud'd company. He was rare in that capacity. I saw him a week before he died - and the languid humor was stil there, and was his zest for life. He has made me a better person for knowing him, and I can still hear Bill's tears on the other end of the phone the day Bud left us. God Bless you, old mate.

I always loved the skits Bud did on The Late Show. "Charlie the Wonder Dog" would not have been the same without him.

So sad to hear the news very belatedly now in Sept.2010. We don't seem to get announcements on the news that we should about great actors dying.
I loved Bud in Catweazle especially where he was the perfect dad to Carrot, now also sadly gone, again as I've just discovered.
What a sad loss but a great acting life.
Rest in peace, Bud.

Adorable actor, they just don't make them like him anymore. Was watching him today on Murder at the Gallop, and wondered how he was doing, and now so sad to hear of his passing. Love to his family, RIP

Bud was a gentle, kind, patient, fellow who had the abiding respect, and love of those in his remarkable career as well a decent, moral human being in all things.

While it deeply saddened this citizen to know of his debt to nature, I take great comfort that he influenced goodness, and left this world a better place because of it.

May God bless richly bless Mr. Tingwell's family, and give them His peace that passes all understanding.
