Years later, when I came back from the Middle East they were making a film called 'Smithy.’ I went out to see them as a Flight Lieutenant with wings and all. They offered me the
part of a control tower officer - provided I could bring my own uniform. And so, I had a day's work on 'Smithy.’

| Audrey - The love of my life. |
In 1951, Audrey and I had decided we still wanted to get married, so, in a little church in Maroubra, we did.
I was married and had now entered the film industry, playing the lead in the Australian feature film “Always Another Dawn”. Many films followed in Australia. In 1952, I was
invited to Hollywood for a feature role, Lt. Carstairs in “The Desert Rats” with Richard Burton, James Mason and Chips Rafferty. I was offered a seven year contract but declined
and returned home to continue working in Australian films, radio productions and theatre. In 1954, I played one of the leads in the first Intimate Revues at the Phillip St. Theatre, “Top
of the Bill” and “Hit and Run”, then for eighteen months toured Australia and New Zealand with Googie Withers and John McCallum, playing Prentice in “Simon and Laura” and
Phillip in “The Deep Blue Sea”.
